For ISU Faculty, Staff, and Students

For Iowa State Iowa State University has a long history of enhancing the transfer of its faculty and staff's innovative ideas and creative works from conception to the marketplace.  Although this process, commonly called "technology transfer," has many inherently complex issues, we have been very successful in this endeavor, as measured by benchmarks with other institutions.

The importance of this activity for university faculty and staff is linked to obligations under research funding and university policies, the establishment of strong industry relationships and the advancement of our students' education.

The slide show Intellectual Property:  Why you should care and how it's managed at ISU provides more detail on the importance of managing the intellectual property generated at the university.

The following topics provide tools for understanding your role and understanding the terminology and processes involved in the transfer of the university's intellectual property.
