For Industry

For_IndustryIowa State filed its first patent application in 1923 and received its first patent in 1926. It established an office in 1938 (one of the first universities to establish such an office) to manage the protection and commercialization of research results through collaborative efforts with industry under license agreements granting industry rights to utilize the protected results.

Today the Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer (OIPTT) and the Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc. (ISURF) work together to protect the results of the university's research and work with companies to transfer the results for the use and benefit of society. This process, commonly called technology transfer, is a core mission of our land-grant institution.

Please refer to the below references or contact one of our staff to find out more about working with our office.
